What is the difference between apprenticeship and traineeship?

The main difference between an apprenticeship and a traineeship is that a traineeship can be within a broader range of occupations and is run either part-time or full-time, where you are employed and trained for typically between one to two years; compared to an apprenticeship, which covers skilled trades and takes around four years to complete.

Are you eligible?

You can participate in this program if you are:

  • an Australian citizen or a permanent resident and
  • willing to commit to a traineeship agreement whereby you will be required to study a job-related course online while working.

How does the apprenticeship/traineeship work?

The apprenticeship/traineeship is a structured program combining study and work that offers you an exciting opportunity to start a career in the field of your choice. This apprenticeship/traineeship is ideal for someone who wants to start or change their career. You will study an online course that will help you learn and become productive on the job and qualify with a nationally recognised qualification within 1 to 4 years. You will have a mentor at the workplace who will support you throughout the entire apprenticeship/traineeship.
