Work life balance at ANZ

Flexibility

ANZ acknowledges the benefits of flexible work and is committed to supporting flexible work practices. For this reason, ANZ enables employees in most workgroups to work up to half their working time remotely.

This means that we expect our people to spend, on average in a calendar month, a minimum of 50% of their time in an ANZ workplace.

The following flexible working arrangements are available to apply for after completion of the graduate program (note that some conditions and approvals may apply):

  • International flexible working arrangement: working remotely in an international location for a temporary period.
  • Domestic flexible working arrangement: working remotely in the same country (but not of a commutable distance from the employee's designated ANZ workplace) for a temporary period.
  • Flex time/hours: working contracted hours in a flexible way by varying start and finish times and/or variations to days of the week for part-time employees.
  • Part time work: working less than standard full-time hours. Refer to the part time work policy.
  • Flexible scheduling: requesting preferences for working days, and/or start and finish times, where the ANZ workplace employs rostered people.
  • Compressed work week: working the contracted number of hours in fewer days. A compressed work week for a Group 1-4 employee should consider the employee's contracted hours plus any reasonable additional hours.
  • Job share: an arrangement where 2 or more people share one role. Job share partners are employed on a part-time basis and receive pro-rata salary/TEC and entitlements.

Leave benefits

At ANZ, we’re committed to turning work-life balance from a goal into a reality with some impressive perks:

  • Annual leave – 4 weeks per year
  • My days – 2 days per year for all permanent and fixed term employees to use how they’d like.
  • Lifestyle leave - you can purchase up to 160 hours, an extra 4 weeks, of leave. You’ll still receive your fortnightly pay, but spread over 48 weeks in a 52-week period.
  • Volunteer leave - one day a year to volunteer (either solo or with your team).
  • Loyalty leave - recognises our loyal employees who have worked with ANZ continuously for three full bank years or more. We provide up to five additional days of paid annual leave.
  • Cultural leave - is available for permanent and fixed-term Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees allowing them one day of paid leave per bank year for cultural activities.
  • Gender affirmation leave - permanent and fixed-term employees can access up to six weeks of paid gender affirmation leave (without needing to exhaust other leave) and up to 12 months total absence to support their gender transition, including presentation changes and medical interventions.
