Tell us about your role at JLL and what it involves

  • 2022/2023 Graduate-  currently working with the office leasing team, heading to Industrial shortly
  • Being a grad is about learning and absorbing as much as you can, to both help you in your future position, and to assist you in figuring out where your interests lie.
  • It is also very important to meet as many people as possible
  • In my office leasing rotation my role involves:
    • Attending inspections
    • Assisting in analyst work- uploading data, providing information, replying to tenant rep inquiries
    • Attending leasing meetings
    • Attending fitout planning and construction meetings
    • Learning the process of leasing an office space from first contact to a signed lease- each case is different so I have tried to be as involved in each tenant that the team has managed since I joined as possible to learn all the different intricacies

How has the graduate program supported you in launching your career

After finishing my degree (Property and Valuation at RMIT) I wasn’t sure which direction I was interested in pursuing, or even what all of my options were. By being in the grad program I have been able to sample 3 different sectors of property to help me determine which one I both enjoyed, and felt I could succeed in. Additionally, you gain the opportunity to learn about business lines that you do not complete a rotation in, and meet different people that work across the entire business.

What work have you been most excited by since starting at JLL

I am really enjoying working with the office leasing team at the moment, and a big reason for that is because the role is extremely dynamic. You do several different things each day, and you never know exactly where your day will end when you arrive that morning. The most exciting thing to me is that each day holds a different challenge

What tips can you share to prospective graduates going through the application or recruitment process with us?

  • Be honest about your interests- its okay to say if you’re not sure yet, that’s the point of the grad program!
  • Make sure to speak to as many people as you can at the networking night, it’s a great way for the JLL team and yourself to figure out if you’re the right fit for the company

Why should someone be excited about joining JLL

  • There are so many opportunities at JLL- being in a large company really allows you to grow into your career within the company
  • There is a really nice environment within the office- it’s a very social company and everyone is willing to have a chat or offer some advice

I work as an Analyst in Capital Markets at JLL which involves investment asset sales, equity and debt advisory. Capital Markets assists JLL clients with transacting commercial real estate assets (both buying and selling) and capital raising activities (both debt and equity).

How has the graduate program supported you in launching your career:

Graduate Program fast tracked the process of understanding the inner workings of Capital Markets and the broader firm. The fun learning environment supported by both formal and informal networking sessions helped me to engage with all teams and decide which one is rightly suited for me (vice versa). Even after almost 4 years, there is little to complain, I am still at Capital Markets and still love what I do.

What work have you been most excited by since starting at JLL:

Change and innovation. I believe JLL has certainly come a long way in the past couple of years as a “firm of the future”. The evolving nature of the business – from physical office change around the country to introducing tech enabled programs at both micro and macro level are creating a new playing field globally. I believe we have started to action what we believe in i.e. shape the future of real estate.

Tell us about your role at JLL and what it involves?

I am a graduate in JLL. As a graduate in JLL, I had this opportunity to go around and experience the various departments of JLL. I was very privileged to join three departments in JLL, they were Capital Markets, Tenant Representation, and Project Development Service. These rotations allowed me to find my true interest in this property industry and map out my further career path. Most days, I’ll have various tasks to complete at the office— newspaper to summarise, PowerPoint presentations and excel spreadsheets to create for clients, and inspections on the calendar that will take up several hours. On other days, I might be on-site at one of our projects for a quality assurance observation and follow-ups with different parties. Although I shadowed my managers a lot, through observation I have learnt a lot of soft and hard skills which are incredibly important for my personal development.

How has the graduate program supported you in launching your career

One of the benefits of joining a graduate program is the exposure to several departments of a business. Often in graduate programs, there is entry-level training across multiple sectors of a business, allowing me to develop greater knowledge of the property industry and gain a wide skillset. Another benefit of joining a graduate program is career progression. The training, mentoring, networking opportunities and the chance to rotate through the organization are all designed to give me the skills and knowledge to succeed in any role I'm going to be in after this program.

What work have you been most excited by since starting at JLL

The most exciting event in JLL were the auctions and the preparation job I took part in during my rotation in Capital Markets. Capital Markets is a very fast pace and motivated team because there is only so little time to launch a campaign and the entire team works toward on goal, to break a deal!. When it comes to auctions, a lot of prior market research had to be carried out so that Agents are able to educate both vendors and prospective buyers. During auctions, buyers know that if they don't bid now, they may miss out. The atmosphere is electric, the auctioneer's calls are exciting and buyers often find themselves worked into a frenzy. This is the perfect environment in which to sell one's assets. I sometimes dreamt of becoming an auctioneer, carrying through the entire transaction.

What tips can you share to prospective graduates going through the application or recruitment process with us?

  • Tip 1, always study JLL's company background. Understand the business arms of JLL and what clients JLL is engaged with. This is very helpful for you to truly understand if you are suitable for the role. Most importantly, researching JLL's business function allows you to demonstrate your interest in the job.
  • Tip 2, aside from focusing on purely selling your personal branding and skills, you should think from JLL's perspective and demonstrate what qualities you can bring to the business. There are never model answers in the interview questions, but you need to be commercially aware. JLL would love to know what skills you can deliver and how are your skills related to the role.
  • Tip 3, It doesn't matter whether or not you have office experience, confidence and passion are the keys. Show that you are confident to pick up the role and you are ready to add value to JLL and yourself.

Why should someone be excited about joining JLL

Someone should be excited about joining JLL because JLL has the most well-organized and structured graduate program. There are rotations managers to look after you and make sure you learning various business areas, but at the same time not overwhelmed by the workload. Besides, JLL has a diverse work environment.
